Charleston, South Carolina
April 15, 2006,

Charleston and beyond will welcome Edible Lowcountry , a new publication dedicated to celebrating the abundance of local foods, season by season. The magazine's mission is to transform the way Lowcountry residents shop for, cook, eat and appreciate local food. The quarterly magazine and its companion website will connect readers with local growers, producers, retailers, chefs, artisans and food-based community organizations. Edible Lowcountry is a member of Edible Communities, Inc., a growing network of award winning regional food publications that bring readers the best in food journalism.

Each issue of Edible Lowcountry is filled with engaging stories, enticing photography, and includes regular departments such as "From the Land" and "Out to Sea" where readers can connect with local farmers and fisherman. "In the Kitchen" highlights local chefs, restaurateurs, authors and noteworthy home cooks while "Cooking Fresh" features what's in season, where to get it, and how to cook it. "Fork in the Road" encourages readers to pack their cookers and hit the road with itineraries for food-centered travels around the state.

Publishers, Robert and Amanda Dew Manning, are well connected to the region's culinary world as owners of Carolina FoodProsT. "Establishing Edible Lowcountry is a natural extension of our personal and professional mission to support, promote and celebrate local food production and consumption that contributes to the economic, social and public health of our communities," say the Mannings. "Our goal with Edible Lowcountry is to create a synergy among producers and consumers that will lead to systemic change in the food choices people make."

Amanda Dew Manning, M.S., M.P.A, a 10 th generation South Carolinian, is a former W.K. Kellogg Foundation Food and Society Policy Fellow and a member of the prestigious Les Dames d'Escoffier International.
