Charleston, S.C. – Carolina Voyager Charter School (CVCS) opened its doors on August 18, 2014, with kindergarten, first, and second grades.  The school is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year for kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grades. Families seeking enrollment need to submit one-page application on or before January 22, 2016. CVCS is a free, public charter school and has no admissions tests, however the school will hold a lottery if there are more applicants than open slots.

To qualify for enrollment, families who live in Charleston County are required to complete one Application for Enrollment Consideration (the application can be download at http://www.carolinavoyagercharterschool.org) per each child. Selection is based on availability or lottery and selected students must fully complete and submit the Student Enrollment Packet within 10 business days of notification.

According to Dr. Harry Walker, the school principal, 126 students are currently attending the school. To help maintain a sense of personalization and community, while providing a more intimate learning environment, CVCS is set on keeping the classroom limited to 23 students and only offering two classrooms per grade in the future.

All eligible students are encouraged to apply. “Each year, our main goal is to attract, maintain and serve a diverse student body — racially, socially, economically and geographically,” says Bryan Hunter, vice-chair of school’s Board of Directors.

School tours will be held on Tuesday, January 12th at 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, January 14th at 6:30 p.m. No appointment is necessary for the Open House tours. Private tours are also available by calling Tricia at 843-203-3891.

Carolina Voyager Charter School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and athletic and other school-administered programs. This racially and socioeconomically diverse charter elementary school implements a unique leaning methodology, employing best national practices of technology learning using rigorous digital curricula platforms and integration of social and emotional leaning.
