Mayor Keith Summey Named Liza’s Lifeline Person of the Year at the 1st Annual Breaking the Silence Awards Gala January 22, 2011
WHAT: The Zonta Club of Charleston’s (www.zontaofcharleston.com) inaugural Breaking the Silence gala will honor individuals and organizations that are making a difference for domestic violence victims.
WHO: The Zonta Club of Charleston and Liza’s Lifeline of South Carolina
WHEN: Saturday, January 22, 2011, starting at 6 p.m. The award ceremony will start at 8:30 p.m.
WHERE: The Harbour Club, 35 Prioleau Street in downtown Charleston.
WHY: By honoring those working to prevent and end domestic violence in Charleston, the Zonta Club of Charleston aspires to raise awareness of the serious issue of domestic violence as well as raise fund for the victims.
MORE: The gala will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Keynote speaker at the event will be 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson. The event is a benefit for Liza’s Lifeline of South Carolina (www.lizaslifelinesc.org), which raises funds to assist domestic violence victims, and Zonta’s service projects. In addition, Verizon Wireless will collect used cell phones and accessories at the event for its HopeLine project; the phones will be refurbished and donated to victims of domestic violence. The following people will be honored:
- Best Business: Verizon Wireless Charleston Call Center
- Best Professional: Scott Beard, Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Violence, Solicitor’s Office
- Best in Media: Kristen Hankla, Post and Courier
- Best Volunteer: Dr. Jennifer Pullano, volunteer with My Sister’s House
- “Liza’s Lifeline Person of the Year,” Mayor Keith Summey
