Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts Presents OPEN
WHAT: OPEN presented by the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts features local arts organizations of the tri county area in a multi-disciplinary art event.
WHO: Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts and City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, Charleston Concert Association, Charleston Stage, Creative Spark Center for the Arts, Taylor Music Group, Chamber Music Charleston, Redux Contemporary Art Center, PURE Theatre, American College of the Building Arts, Gibbes Museum, Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, League of Charleston Theatres, Yo Art Inc., Moranz Entertainment, Charleston Fine Art Dealers Association, Charleston Ballet Theatre, City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Department, Jazz Artists of Charleston, International Piano Series at the College of Charleston, Charleston Documentary Film Festival, South of Broadway Theatre Company, Deuce Theatre, Charleston County School of the Arts, Cone 10 Studios, Capoeira Charleston and South Carolina Storytellers Network.
WHEN: September 11, 2010 at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
WHERE: Memminger Auditorium, 56 Beaufain Street in downtown Charleston.
WHY: The goal is to break down the barriers to participation in the arts.
HOW: FREE event.
MORE: Attendees of this arts expo can expect a cultural marketplace of interactive arts booths where they can buy tickets, memberships and merchandise as well as get information by talking with arts organizations about their mission, programming and events. In addition, there will be performance stages, multi-media presentations and a family fun arts corner where spectators will get to “taste” a sampling of Charleston’s arts. An open-air courtyard of vendors and street performers will add to the arts extravaganza.
STAGE SCHEDULE: The program starts at 10:30 a.m. and each organization has 15 minutes to present. The morning program kicks off with Charleston Stage and continues with the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, Moranz Entertainment, Taylor Music Group, Charleston Concert Association, and City of North Charleston. SC Storytellers Network comes on at noon followed by the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, Chamber Music Charleston, Cut Co, Sprouts Theatre, Yo Art and South of Broadway Theatre Company. Capoeira Charleston performance ends the program at 2:30 p.m.
VENDORS: Happy Camper Snoballs, Gullah Cuisine, Cru Café, Poogan’s Porch and Aluette’s Café.
