Get “Redy” to Wear at Rebekah Jacob Gallery October 6
On October 6, 2010, the American College of the Building Arts (ACBA) will host its annual “Redy to Wear” party to celebrate the unveiling of masks by prominent Charleston artists. The evening kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Rebekah Jacob Gallery located at 169 King Street. All proceeds from the event will be donated to support the education of ACBA’s students.
“Redy to Wear” pays tribute to Charleston’s visual art scene, as well raises funds for ACBA. Guests are invited to bid on masks, bids starting at $100. The highest bidders will be announced at 8 p.m. Interested bidders can preview the masks at Rebekah Jacob Gallery on October 6 during business hours from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The highest bidders are encouraged to wear their masks to the RED PARTY on October 28, 2010 at the Old City Jail.
In the past, notable Charleston artists created masks within their artistic styles, using traditional materials like feathers, beads, and ribbons, as well as non-traditional materials like sweet grass and metal from a chicken coup. This year’s participating artists include: Lese Corrigan, Lisa Shimko, Timothy Pakron, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Sarah Haynes, Kenton James, William Bates, Jeff Kopish, Dorothy Netherland, Anne Darby Parker, Lily Kounen. Most artists will be present at the event.
Please note that “Redy to Wear” is a precursor to its sister-party, The Red Party, which will occur later in October on the 28th. Both events were created to raise funds for the American College of the Building Arts, and emphasize the need for trained, skilled artisans in America, particularly Charleston. All proceeds from both events help support the education of ACBA’s students.
